Quick Apply Full-time 20 hours ago Full Job Description The Personal Property Deputy for the County Assessor is responsible for collecting and recording personal property records for businesses in Floyd County.
DUTIES:
Maintains and manages personal property records for tax assessments.
Assists Auditor's office with questions/concerns regarding personal property, including verifying personal property reports from Auditor's office.
Answers telephone and greets office visitors, including answering questions, providing property and assessment information, preparing personal property farm and business assessment forms, and referring callers/visitors to appropriate person or department.
Assists Tax Management Associates (TMA) and the public as needed, including researching personal property information and assessments, processing and verifying exemption credits and updating department records and information.
Prepares various notices, including notices of State Tax Board hearing, and Board of Review hearing and actions taken.
Utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) website and assists the public in using website applications.
Maintains accurate records for department and prepares and submits various reports as required.
Performs physical inspections and validates business tangible personal properties.
Releases consent to transfer as needed.
Attends training, educational seminars and/or conferences as required.
Enters minutes from Board of Review meetings.
Performs related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS Must have high school diploma or GED.
Possession of, or ability to obtain Level I and II Assessor/Appraiser certification within 1 year of employment.
Must complete continuing education hours as required by Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) to maintain certification.
Working knowledge of state and local law/code related to properties and assessment and County policies/procedures, with ability to apply to assessments.
Working knowledge and experience with word processing, spreadsheets, email, online document processing, and office-specific software/systems.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, DLGF, Tax Management Associates (TMA), title/closing companies, realtors, attorneys, appraisers, Property Tax Assessors Board of Appeals, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to provide public access to, or maintain confidentiality of, department information and records according to state requirements.
Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile persons.
Ability to occasionally work evenings and travel out of town, sometimes overnight for continuing education and conferences.
Must have a valid driver's license.
