Job Description:
Baptist Health is looking for Patient Safety for Healthcare Facilities Director to join our team in New Albany, IN The Director of Patient Safety for the Healthcare Facility will maintain effective organization in all aspects of the Patient Safety-Risk Management Program for the healthcare facility.
Specific activities include the coordination and direct clinical support for the patient safety and the risk management program, staff education, management of claims, and the investigation of safety events as defined in BHS Legal and Risk Management policies, maintaining appropriate records as needed to document investigation and claims and the ongoing risk management files.
The Director of Patient Safety will provide support to employees as needed during the review and investigation of safety events as well as depositions and interviews with outside counsel.
The Director of Patient Safety will maintain the safety event-reporting program for the facility, including timely reviews of all reported events and identifying actual and potential patient harm events and events that may also arise to claim or litigation status.
The Director of Patient Safety facilitates and participates in pro-active risk assessments based on relevant literature and sentinel event alerts.
The Director of Patient Safety will work with the Associate Vice President of Risk Management to provide oversight; recommends preventative and/or remedial solutions that will improve safety, reduce hazards, prevent loss, transfer risks, and minimize the chance of harm to patients, visitors, staff, and the organization.
The Director of Patient Safety will notify the Associate Vice President for Risk Management, Healthcare Facility President and senior management as quickly as possible of serious incidents as they occur.
The Director of Patient Safety will work with Defense Counsel and BHS litigation counsel as directed and as requested to obtain additional information, provide records, set up appointments, etc.
Implements necessary protocols to ensure achievement of the objectives set forth in the Baptist Healthcare System Risk Management Program by means of reviews, relevant training; a system of consistent application of evidenced based processes and the development of corrective action plans.
Develops and maintains a comprehensive management-wide system designed to gather and evaluate information on all undesirable events or trends in patient care or facility management throughout the environment of care.
Recommends preventative and/or remedial solutions that will insure safety, reduce hazards, prevent loss, transfer risks, and minimize the chance of harm to patients, visitors, staff, and the organization.
Actively participates in the grievance process and the Grievance Committee within the Healthcare facilities.
Collaborates with the healthcare facility leadership to enhance Risk Management and Patient Safety programs along with general hospital operations.
Responsible for participating in activities related to regulatory agency reviews such as the Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the State Office of the Inspector General.
The Director of Patient Safety shall be designated as the Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSES) Officer for the facility.
The PSES Officer is authorized to determine the data that will maintained in the PSES, to regularly review the data maintained in the PSES (at least annually), remove data from the PSES, and determine data that shall ultimately be submitted to the Patient Safety Organization (PSO).
The Director of Patient Safety will work within the system PSES/PSO operational policies and procedures.
Requirements Education:
5 years of experience in healthcare risk management required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or clinically related Healthcare Field relevant to the scope of the role required.
Certification as a Professional in Healthcare Risk Management preferred.
